Pearl Street
Living here was the most rewarding experience that I have ever had. This place is so much more that a home, it's a cooperative society, packed with friends and fun. If you desire more than a formal education from the university/college systems and are also looking for lessons in real life, you should apply to live here.

Pearl street is a magical establishment. It’s a very safe space for students to experience communal living and what it means to have a truly Democratic society. There can be wild parties, and things can get dirty, but one of the core values is respect. So everything gets cleaned and people are afforded a safe space to party. It’s old, but there’s dedicated maintenance people to fix what needs fixin.
If you’re looking for a quiet house, it’s probably safer to choose another college houses or if coop, but pearl isn’t super loud every day or anything.
The pool is easily the best part. All your lunches and dinners are cooked for you by your housemates. You can make rules and host your own events. And the friends that you make are for life!!!
Highly recommend living here.

Living here changed my life. A lot of these reviews need to get off their high horse - this building has been around since the 60s! Of course the facilities are outdated but it’s truly a once in a lifetime experience to live here and I’m proud to have been a small part of its massive and beautiful history.
Also ! Get a clue that noise problems are present in west campus everywhere! Move to north campus or Hyde park if you can’t get a grip.

There’s a lot to say after living at Pearl for 3 years, but to sum it up, Pearl has helped me become comfortable with who I am. Pearlies have each other’s backs. Pearl is family. Having a community who accepts me means everything to me

Pearl Street Coop gives students the unique opportunity to build their own experience. The foundation of the house and coops is built on mutual respect. Housemates all complete labor each week to maintain the house.
Pearl can be a loud and party forward environment. If that’s not what you’re looking for, it might be better to choose a smaller and quieter coop. I suspect that’s where a lot of these one star reviews are coming from.
The best thing about the cooperative model is the accountability. If there’s a problem with a member or the house, the house or the office will handle it.
Despite the party reputation, Pearl has had sober directors, many sober people living in the house, people from all sorts of social levels. Many people with social anxiety credit Pearl with helping them through it. Some people end up moving out because it’s not for them.
Move in. Try new things. Meet new people. See if it’s for you.
Much love to the coop world from 37th Street!

Great community where you live in not just a residence, but a home. The ultimate definition of the sharing economy, Pearl Street provides you everything you might want out of a student resident, without the annoying and expensive landlords and VC firms (which is basically the rest of West Campus).
You get the opportunity and benefit of meeting people from all over the world and of various backgrounds.
Included in the rent is all utility bills, internet, pool access, home gym, computer lab and printing, maintenance, tool shed, bike parking, cheap car parking upon request (one low fee per semester), video games and consoles, movie room, study rooms, social events, ALL OF YOUR FOOD (2 hot meals each weekday, 3 hot meals weekends, breakfast options, coffee, snacks, and whatever else you could want). Rooms are very large, furniture included (if you want), bathrooms are shared with only 1 or 2 other people. Good luck finding a more affordable deal anywhere near UT.
The best part of all is the built-in support and community, an aspect that is absolutely priceless.

Pearl Street Co-op is cooperative style housing rather than a typical house, apartment, or condo. That means when you live there it's part of your signed contract to do 4 hours of house labor, and that could involve cleaning, cooking, or a myriad of tasks. Even if you have a busy schedule and there isn't time for you to do labor, officers make a good effort to give the most flexible labor possible. I think it's a super super unique to live in a co-op style house, and you'll get to meet so many different and lovely people. My experience with Pearl has been great, first and foremost because of the community we have together. I like the fact that we plan and act on important house matters as a whole group, like group activities or house upkeep. I've seen Pearl residents really care about each other and the environment they live in. Application process is really easy too. Would not hesitate to check it out.

There's plenty of charms, quirks and stories to this housing co-operative that you grow to learn and love as time goes on, but the best aspects to this place by far are the connections and the sense of camaraderie you establish with your housemates, whether it's through a social event, a house meeting, doing labor, or having a beer with someone you just met on the balcony or Bart's Landing after a long day of studying. Pearl St Co-op has taught me that no matter how big or small, you really can make a difference for the betterment of your community. No matter where you come from, anyone who lives here is capable to getting out what they put into an evolving place like this. Cooperative living is what you make of it, and I firmly believe that if you decide on Pearl St Co-op, what you'll make of this place will be a hell of a fun and rewarding ride.
