The "Super Co-op" is located just blocks away from the UT-Austin campus, and is the home of three unique co-op houses. Laurel and Halstead occupy two floors each, and both offer a great student community, affordable rent, and a convenient meal plan. Nueces Co-op is an apartment-style co-op, great for students looking who need more private space. Learn more and discover which of these houses is right for you! Note: These houses have rooms reserved exclusively for lower income residents and recipients of financial aid. If you receive need-based financial aid, you are strongly encouraged to apply!

I've lived here in Laurel for four years. Great place to practice democracy and meet new people! Within walking/biking/skating distance of classes at UT

As someone who has lived in laurel for some semesters, I know there as some problems with the house. However, what makes it is the people and cooperation of your fellow coopers. I love laurel and have made some really amazing life long friends. This semester has kinda gone downhill with an over-bearing entitled member who refuses to take accountability and would rather blame over 55 people for their problems. This member doesn’t even have bed bugs, just rushed to judge and yelled at everyone like it was their individual faults for it. Not to mention there is an overzealous officer who only does things for his own amusement or benefit, egging on this person from the shadows of his room. I know the reviews are intimidating, but living here is what you make of it. And truthfully, it’s one of the best options for affordable living close to UT. Enjoy your time and don’t get caught up in other peoples drama, trust you’ll love it. And do your labor 🫵🏻

This is my third semester in Nueces and I now consider it my home! Living at Super Co-Op has been such a unique experience compared to any other west-campus apartment I could have chosen. At the co-op, you get a direct say in the way things are run and there are also great opportunities to get involved in leadership roles. I’ve had a great time getting involved in my co-op and love the culture here! Can’t imagine spending my college years anywhere else.

Living at Halstead has been the best part of my college experience. I moved in here looking for cheap rent and a community of people I can get along with and that is exactly what I found. The self-governance aspect of living here is also fantastic. As a member of the house, you get a say in what money is spent on, what rules are implemented, and what events are hosted. Having to work with others leads to making friends really fast and everyone is genuine and inviting. I think that everyone should live here for at least 1 year since co-op living feels like a genuine college experience. Plus the food is great, the spaces are clean, and the proximity to campus is fantastic. Could not recommend more!

I have lived at Halstead for three years and consider it my home as much as I do my childhood house. The food is delicious and the people are kind. It can get a little chaotic with 75 people living together and self governing but it's an experience I wouldn't trade for anything. It has made my college experience and the positive outweigh the negatives tenfold. Living here makes your soul happy

I signed up too late to get on campus housing, and I thought this would be a decent backup. After no time at all, I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. The people are all so caring, and our decision making is purely democratic. It’s got great rates, free utilities, and free homemade meals, I really couldn’t ask for anything more. Halstead is really a home to me now, and I think most who decide to live here will have a similar experience. Picture of the breezeway view is attached.
(also the review bombers are fake, we don’t have “RA’s” like they claim so I know they don’t live here)

I love Laurel and all the people within. Every couple of weeks we have great social events and a loving community. Recently there has been some false/insensitive comments about are house from a problematic member who is in the process of moving out. I love Laurel!

One of the cooler places to live

I first moved into Halstead in fall 2020. My one semester there was a great experience. The residents here emphasize the social aspect of co-op living. If you want a hole to live in and do not want to meet a single soul, this is not the place for you.
Pros:
- 24/7 AC (a little on the cold side, but just put on a jacket!)
- Good high-speed Wi-Fi (including ethernet ports in the rooms)
- Reliable hot water
- Very democratic and social atmosphere (nobody is forcing you to give in to the party life, especially if you want to be more studious like me. But you're always invited!)
Cons:
- If you have a courtyard facing room, you may be awoken like me from late-night basketball games. I usually just got out of my room and yelled "SHADDUP!" and that solved the problem.
- As a person who likes meat, I am in the minority. Most of the meals will be vegetarian or vegan based.
- If you have lots of social anxiety, this place will stress you out
I only lived here one semester because I was studying abroad the next semester. I plan to live here a whole year in Fall 2022 - Spring 2023!

The best cooperative student housing you can find ?

I can vouch for Halstead Co-op (I lived there for 3 years)! Absolutely great place to live as a student.
Very diverse house, full of undergraduate/graduate students of all backgrounds and many international/exchange students -- a great place to make friends if you're open to it.
If you're extremely introverted and/or afraid of getting distracted from your studies, perhaps not the greatest place to be (there's always something going on in the public spaces and people are generally pretty social), but a great place if you don't mind talking, hanging out, and having a good time!
This is a co-op, so you will have to do labor (in exchange for a pretty good rent discount relative to the West Campus neighborhood and meals prepared for you). If you do not want to do 4 hours of cooking and/or cleaning per week or are afraid of people potentially challenging or changing your worldview, you shouldn't live here.
